I’ll be the first to admit, working out has always been a struggle. I had to rerun the fitness mile in high school 3x to get under 10 minutes and don’t even get me started on the pull up strength test! Trust me, I wanna go into Beast Mode when working out, but I just can’t seem to activate that part in me.
Fitness has been something I’ve learned to work into my lifestyle at 40+, although I still need to coach myself everyday to get my sweat on. Buuuuuut, I did find a collection of things that make working out at home a little more enjoyable!
First of all, yes, I prefer to workout at home. I like the freedom of going from laundry, to dinner prep, to emails to workout in one clean swoop.
Sometimes I throw on a Blogilates video, but most times, I do a strength workout on Apple Fitness+ with Coach Sam or Coach Kyle or HIIT or kickboxing with Coach Anja or Coach Jamie Ray. Not on AppleFitness+? It’s pretty awesome, especially if you travel. It’s like your trainers travel with you, but don’t count your calories.
here are 5 things that make
workout out at home a little less dreadful
WORKOUT ONESIE
Working out in a onesie? It’s a game changer! I’ve always fell short to cropped leggings, sports bra and a loose top for working out until I tried this collared onesie on.
I now own three workout onesies and counting. I love the snatched fit, ability to move and bend and ultra support.
Link to the best workout onesie here. But I also like this ribbed one, and this ribbed zip one. I’m wearing a size L in all.
CUTE WEIGHTS
I picked up 10 and 15 lb weights from Target and got gifted a 5lb set from Alyssa. I store them all in this cute wicker basket to keep my living room feeling like a mini yoga studio.
Seriously, lift weights, but make it cute.

CHEETAH GLOVES
Lifting weights can do some serious damage to your hands. For someone who is constantly gloping lotion onto their hands, you can imagine how slippery, then callous my hands get when I grip weights. What’s a girl to do? Get cute lifting gloves of course!
These fit the criteria – easy to get on and off, velcro fastening and cheetah print? Sold. PS: I had to do two exchanges to get the right fit. Size down, these gloves will stretch out. I ended up with a size small. Link to gloves here.
XL YOGA MAT
I saw a YouTube video where the fitness instructor always stayed on the mat! Side lunge, mat. Back lunge, mat. Me? I was always sliding all over the place. I found the perfect XL, non slip mat here.
“I didn’t ever think we’d need or want an XL yoga mat, but it’s the perfect play area for the kids. Literally, once it’s out, a dance party begins.”
SILICONE PHONE HOLDER
Now sometimes I like to workout in our yoga room. This MagSafe suction cup phone holder is awesome! I slap it on the back of my phone, stick it to the mirror, turn on Apple Fitness+ and here we go – workout has begun!
Warning: Stick it on GOOD. I use a towel and firmly press my phone to the mirror to ensure it’s suctioned well.
