Tanna’s Favorite Things

YELLOW CRUISER BIKE

Remember the big bike boom that happened during the pandemic? So for Christmas 2020, I asked for a bike – one that reminded me of my childhood days ripping up and down Kaeleku Street in Hawaii Kai.

I asked for a yellow cruiser!

I got the team pumped to hit the Kakaako pavement. “Guys, let’s all get bikes! We can start an Eden bike club!!” And just like that, we had three cruisers coming to Hawaii – a banana boat color for me, a cotton candy pink for Alyssa and a classic white for Olivia. Here’s a link to the bikes we got.

Now, bike but make it cute, right??

Here’s how we jazzed up our wheels:

A custom Eden bike bell. We bought a simple white bell and lasered an Eden pattern on it.

A basket and pom poms. Look how cute it is – perfect for holding snacks, jackets and Char’s sloth stuffie!
Basket and pom poms were a must.

Coffee carrier. Cause I have to peddle hands free but NEED my coffee when I roll to work.

A cute lock. I got a pink lock with a 4 foot cable and combination lock. Safe CAN be cute too!

“TanTan and I went cruising around Magic Island on our bikes after school one day! Uncle Brys is always the leader of the pack and TanTan rides in the back. We’re all in a line, just like a bike club.”

DAILY HAIR MUST HAVES

JAPANESE HAIR MASCARA

Baby hairs? How can?? How can it be possible that at age 40+, I have new baby hairs sprouting??! No amount of hairspray could keep these new patches of baby hair down for the entire day and trust me, I would go to town trying.

Then one day, while perusing Matsumoto Kiyoshi in Japan (it’s the greatest all around makeup/drug store ever!), I stumbled upon “mascara” for your hair. There were a few options, and all had testers available. I sniffed the & Honey Melty Matomake Stick and fell in love. This stuff really does the job and keeps every strand of hair in place all day long!

PS: Only sold in Japan but we’ve found it online on a site called yesstyle.com if you want to check it out.

Other hair tools I love:

CROC HAIR STRAIGHTENER

My go to for the last decade! I used to only use this to straighten my bob, but now I use it for beachy, messy curls. I like the size of the flat head, it’s easy to handle and reduces my frizz, particularly in cold dry temps.

This is a 1″, good for controlling shorter, shoulder length hair. Available in multiple sizes, but the 1″ works like a charm for me. Shop this Croc Hair Straightener here.

BABY BOBBYPINS

Once I’m done taming my baby hair, it’s time for me to BRAID. I’m obsessed with these baby bobbypins

These minis are perfect for braiding bangs and holding thin, slick hair without the annoying slips.

My home workout must haves

Fitness has been something I’ve learned to work into my lifestyle at 40+, although I still need to coach myself everyday to get my sweat on. Buuuuuut, I did find a collection of things that make working out at home a little more enjoyable! First of all, yes, I prefer to workout at home. I like the freedom of going from laundry, to dinner prep, to emails to workout in one clean swoop.

WORKOUT ONESIE

Working out in a onesie? It’s a game changer! I’ve always fell short to cropped  leggings, sports bra and a loose top for working out until I tried this collared onesie on.

I now own three workout onesies and counting. I love the snatched fit, ability to move and bend and ultra support. Link to the best workout onesie here.

But I also like this ribbed one, and this ribbed zip one. I’m wearing a size L in all.

CUTE WEIGHTS

I picked up 10 and 15 lb weights from Target and got gifted a 5lb set from Alyssa. I store them all in this cute wicker basket to keep my living room feeling like a mini yoga studio.

Seriously, lift weights, but make it cute.
Link to baskets here.

XL YOGA MAT

I saw a YouTube video where the fitness instructor always stayed on the mat! Side lunge, mat. Back lunge, mat. Me? I was always sliding all over the place. I found the perfect XL, non slip mat here

“I didn’t ever think we’d need or want an XL yoga mat, but it’s the perfect play area for the kids. Literally, once it’s out, a dance party begins.”
