The current obsession with everything… CAPY-BARA. Capybara, capybara, capybara, CAPYBARA.

Is it just us or is anyone else wondering where the obsession with these friendly furry fellas came from?? Our story begins in Thailand, in May of 2025 when Tanna texted me a photo of this giant floating capybara.

Me: “What is that?”

Tanna: “Capybara? They’re playing this catchy song (listen here, it IS catchy!) and there’s capybara EVERYTHING.

They love capybaras!”

Me: “Oh wow, I’ll show C.”

And boy did Char love the song AND the look of these chubby brown bears? We had no idea what they were until we did more digging and found that they were LARGE RODENTS!!! OMG.

Regardless, the obsession began in Thailand, in May 2025 and ended in this cute ‘n capy HAPPY CAPY in December.

Fun design facts:

Though the original capybara was found in Thailand, I couldn’t stop laughing imagining a capybara cruising through Hawaii. Trading shave ice for their usual leaves and sticks; bathing in a pool with some tangerines; hiding behind monsteras and letting egrets sit on their butts. LOL!

Before working on the design, I had a ton of inspo from seeing real life capys TWICE. Once it was coming out of chilling in the pool at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney and another time it looked shocked and startled when Char pet its back in Fukuoka (at LaLaPort, not in the wild!)

Their silly faces and funny bodies made them the PERFECT character to Eden-fy. After seeing how the Thailand pop up showcased them made it a fun project to illustrate. A capy burger? A capy croissant?? You gotta be kidding me.

CAPY STUFFIES + CLOTHES
