Fukuoka For Da Guys

It’s not just me — Bryson loves Fukuoka too 🇯🇵

While I’m browsing train station shops and ¥100 aisles 🛍️, Bryson is out exploring 🚶‍♂️💨 I always wondered WTFUK he was up to… now I know! 😅

Bryson’s Fukuoka Favorites:

AUN Smoke (Daimyo) 🚬

Cigar shop with a huge selection of Cubans and rare, limited finds at solid prices.

“I took Phillip and Dad separately, it’s that good!”

Book Off Plus 🥃

Unexpected whiskey goldmine. Great bottles for a fraction of the price.

Insiders secret? Buy whiskey at Book Off Plus. “Our relator gave us that tip and every single Book Off we go to, I find at least one good bottle of whiskey for a fraction of the price.”

New TCG releases 🎴

One Piece and Gundam drops with serious resale potential.

“I’m always looking for a flip, so when I heard of these One Piece and Gundam releases, I went. Everyone was buying so I bought too!”

Japanese baseball games at Mizuho PayPay Dome ⚾

Electric energy, great snacks 🍿, and crowd chants that make it so fun.

The Mizuho PayPay Dome is huge and baseball games are really entertaining. Everyone is into it, the snacks are awesome and the way the crowd cheers in unison is super fun to be a part of. Highly recommend!”

Biking the coast 🚲🌊

From Uminonakamichi Seaside Park to Shikanoshima Island, with café stops ☕🥐 along the way.

When in Fukuoka, we bike. In 30 mins, you can get to the coast, rent a bike and head all the way up the sandbar road from Uminonakamichi Seaside Park to Shikanoshima Island. “Make pit stops along the way, the local cafes and bakeries are the best.”

Garuda Thai Massage 💆‍♂️

Owner trained in Chiang Mai. Deep, effective stretches (dangerous in the best way).

Thai massages at Garuda. This spot is AMAZING. The owner, Moka, trained in Chiang Mai and can stretch you like a rubberband. It’s a 3 minute walk from our house so I’ve been going on repeat.

Nanzoin Temple 🛕

Home to the massive Reclining Buddha. Visiting during a first-of-the-month event made it extra special.

This trip to the temple was extra special because it was the first of the month and there was some kind of event. Beans and mochi were tossed to the crowd with lucky numbers in them to collect prizes – toilet paper, ziploc bags, pastries. The energy was electric and that massive Buddha is quite a sight.

Costco Japan 🛒

Always worth the trip. Wagyu 🥩, sushi 🍣, and future big purchases secured.

In Hawaii, I’m in charge of the Costco runs so I was happy when my in laws asked to go to a Costco in Japan to check it out. It was a 90 minute train/bus ride, but we came back with a $40 wagyu T-bone steak, a cheap and delicious sushi platter PLUS I scoped out a TV I’m gonna jump on when we get back this summer. All good things! Costco never disappoints.

JINS / Zoff 👓✨

Affordable glasses, free eye exams, and ready in ~45 minutes. Photochromatic lenses for the win 😎

If you’re like me, after age 45, my vision went caput. Tanna always raved about these glasses from Japan that are under $100, ready in 45 minutes and you can get a free eye exam on the spot. I have to admit, Jin’s or Zoff has been one of my first stops when I land in Japan. I go home with 3-5 pairs of glasses and this time I opted for photochromatic sunglasses. Don’t be shocked when you see me reading poolside with shades on. Thanks to Japan, I can!

Fukuoka really does have something for everyone.
